Self-Defense Technique: Defend Punches

This week's self-defense technique is Defending Punches from a Guard Position.

While I hope you never have to use it, it's an excellent technique if you find yourself in a situation where you are on the ground and have to defend yourself from somebody who is trying to fight you.

Pay special attention to:

  • How my body keeps away from him using my feet on his hips

  • How I adjust my body naturally with each arm he uses to punch

  • My left foot kicking his right knee out to trip him and gaining the upper-hand

Please review the video a few times and then let's practice it together - ask me about it the next time we're on the mat.

Remember: To be effective using self-defense techniques, you have to be able to do them smoothly, and practice is the key.
